Vinyl
Deterioration Spots
VDS is a fungus that
feeds on the sticky plasicizer that migrates out of the vinyl.
Mold will only grow in humid conditions. It will grow and spread
on dolls that have food (the plasicizer) available and are
subjected to humid conditions. It WILL NOT spread from doll to
doll! If VDS free dolls that are stored with infected dolls
develop VDS, it is because they were both placed in conditions
that promote fungus growth! Keep dolls in a low humidity
environment and clean them with a cleaner designed to remove the
plasticizer. This will limit the amount of infestation of your
dolls. Formula 911 works, but there are other cleaners that will
do the trick. To reduce humidity, use a dehumidifier in the room
where the dolls are or use a desiccant to absorb excess moisture
inside your display case. You can buy a 2 lb. bucket of silica gel
for drying flowers at craft stores that works well for this
purpose! Also there are special Calcium pellets that you can buy
that are color coded for when replacing is necessary. They are
blue when they are fresh and pink or purple when they need
replacing. Another trick to put the pellets in the oven, this
eliminates the moister and then they can be reused. You should
never store dolls in a sealed plastic bag without a desiccant.
If your doll gets VDS
there is a cure. Remove zit will get rid of the VDS! I have used
this product personally on several of my dolls and IT DOES WORK!

VDS it gets rid of the paint. So avoid using this product on
painted areas such as the face or the shoes. Unless you are handy
